Point Spring




PSD Location on Melwood St. circa 1934


  • Point Spring Co. was born in 1926, on Water St. at the point in Pittsburgh, PA.This site is now better known as Point State Park.

  • In 1932 the company, which was owned by The Rowland Steel Co., moved to Melwood St. in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, since this was the thriving transportation hub at that time.

  • In the 1940's Point Spring Co. began repairing driveshafts and selling replacement driveline components.

  • In 1963, the company was sold to Mr. William N. Ryan and his partner Mr. Raymond J. Scherer. At this time Point Spring became better known as Point Spring & Driveshaft Co., this name change was made to more fully describe what type of service the company offered.

  • In 1982, PSD purchased Valley Auto Spring in New Castle, PA. which became known as Valley Spring & Driveshaft Co.

  • Also, later in 1982, PSD opened its third location in Fairmont, WV. which was also known as Point Spring & Driveshaft Co.

  • In 1986, the fourth location was built in the Neville Island section of Pittsburgh. This location became known as Island Spring & Driveshaft Co.

  • In 1990, PSD purchased the assets of Weaver Motor Service in Greensburg, PA. after operating for 2 years as Weaver Motor Service, this location took on the Point Spring & Driveshaft name.

  • In 1996, as negotiations were in progress to acquire Brake Drum and Equipment Co., the original Melwood St. location was consolidated with the Neville Island branch. This would eventually have to occur since Brake Drum already had a nearby location.

  • On July 16, 1997 the acquisition of Brake Drum & Equipment Co. was completed and the PSD family grew to 9 locations, plus a state of the art Brake Relining Center.

  • On November 30, 2006 the acquisition of Teeds Auto Wheel Service was completed and the PSD family grew once again to 10 locations, plus the relining center. Albeit this would be a temporary expansion.

  • On April 1, 2007 PSD merged the BDE Seneca, PA. location with the freshly acquired Teeds Auto Wheel Service location in Meadville, PA. This move allowed PSD to bring full service work to North Western PA. for the first time.
