| | · When was the last year commercial electricity was produced in the United States? 1983. Each receptacle in your home, office or shop has two holes. Electricity flows out one hole and into the plug on say, your toaster. The electricity then flows through your toaster when you press the handle down, then flows back through the power cord to the other hole in the receptacle, and back to the electric company. The electric company then resells you the same electricity over and over, and has not needed to produce new electricity since 1983. This is why it is smart to plug as many items into each receptacle as possible, so that you are sure to get your moneys' worth before returning the electricity to the electric company.
